Care and Maintenance of your Rug
Regular Care
-
It is important to regularly vacuum your rug at least once a week to prevent the build up of dirt and grit accumulating in the pile and damaging the fibres.
-
If your rug has fringes or tassles DO NOT vacuum these as they may unravel.
-
All wool rugs will regularly shed fibre. However if you find a longer stray fibre attached to your rug DO NOT pull it as this can lead to more damage. Simply trim it down to the rest of the pile.
-
Regularly rotate your rug to obtain even wear and prevent sun bleaching.
-
Re-arrange your furniture to change traffic direction and prevent wear.
-
NEVER beat your rug as this leads to loose threads and damaged backing.
Spills and Stains
-
Try to avoid eating in the area around your rug. Most spills introduce oils into your rug which attract dirt and lead to dull stains appearing over time.
-
If you do happen to spill on your rug DO NOT rub as this will spread the staining but gently dab at the spillage with a clean cloth.
-
If applying carpet cleaner start from the outside and work inwards. Use a clean cloth and avoid soaking the area with water. Use paper towels to soak up excess moisture.
-
NEVER use a spot cleaner on wool rugs as this could set the stain and make it impossible to remove by even a professional cleaner.
-
Shampoo your rug at least once a year following the manufacturers guidelines as to what kind of cleaning detergents and equipment are suitable.
REMEMBER...The cleaner you keep your rug, the longer it will last!
